Artemis
Mirror / Beech and Linden Wood
192 x 60 x 40 cm
___
Artemis, the ancient goddess of the Aegean lands and of Ephesus, bears a life-sized vertical mirror where her body should be. Her face, hair and open arms are meticulously carved from wood, yet the centre of the body is left entirely open — and that void looks straight back at you. As you stand before it, you meet your own reflection within the goddess’s body. Making the visitor a direct part of the work, this interactive confrontation reveals that all the human conditions in the exhibition ultimately arrive at that mirror in which we return to ourselves.
