What matters most in this monumental three-metre body is that two different woods — thuja and oak — despite their differing grain and hardness, can stand side by side and intertwined within the same whole without spoiling one another. With this three-metre trunk, hollowed from within, the artist has carved not a solid mass but that sacred “void” which two beings create by opening space for one another without crushing each other’s ground. At sunset, as light seeps from within, that hollow ceases to be an absence and becomes a quiet gateway of peace, opening one being to another.
